Part two of my weekend........
2004-08-02

I slept like a rock Friday night, barely noticing the 72 boats returning from the solo twin at all hours of the night/morning. Apparently they did a lot of yelling. Who knew?

I cooked breakfast on board and we went for a walk through downtown. As long as we were next to the water it was nice. Between the buildings and out of the breeze it was unbearable.

We hung out until it was time to get ready for the wedding. I'm sure we looked pretty funny in suits and stuff walking down the docks. My dress shoes, BTW are like iceskates on the dock ramps. I'm lucky I didn't fall in the drink.

The wedding itself was at Sa1ve Reg1na College in the chapel. When I think chapel, I think small. This place had a 4 story atrium and was made of marble and dark wood. It had a patio that overlooked a great lawn and the ocean. Quaint....

It had to be 100+ degrees in there and we were all sweating like pigs (if pigs had old money). There was an 8 piece chamber music group. All they were missing was a harp. They made the bridesmaids and bride walk down a two story staircase in gowns and high heels. I would have killed myself. They all managed.

After the service we went out to the receiveing line and took a stroll to the wall to look down on the peasants walking c1iff wa1k. Then we drove to the reception place, a little old Newp0rt summer cottage called Mrs. Ast0rs Beechw00d. If you've never done the mansions in Newp0rt, it is worth a trip to see them once. It is hard to believe that people had that much money to blow.

The doormen and greeters were all in period costume. They even paid a guy in an old suit to stand by an old restored car in the front yard. The initial reception was outside. They had two bars set up (free all night) and a few tidbits ot eat. The raw bar had more oysters and little necks that I've seen in a long time. A guy in a suit was shucking them to order. They also had cracked crab claws, shrimp and lobster. Not bad.

There was an antipasto table set up with all the finest Italian meats cheeses and roasted veggies. Yum. If that wasn't enough, there were servers bringing around grilled scallops, beef welligntons, mushrooms tarts, duck pates, and things like that. This was all before dinner. We managed to put a few dents in the supply, but they never came close to running out.

Dinner was in the main ballroom where they hat an eleven piece orchestra. There wasn't a head table and they didn't do garters or a cake thing or any of that. Dinner was VERY good. My beef was tender enough to cut with a fork and the sea bass and chicken were also very good. After dinner they had an entire room filled with desserts. UGH, can you say beached whale? We danced a bit after dinner and headed out for the short trip back to the boat for the night. M.E. and Joyce crashed right away and Ken and I stayed up for one more. Then it was time for ZZZZZs
