You don't know how lucky you are boy....
2004-05-24

We had an up and down weekend. There was relazation and tension and laughs and tears, sometimes in a matter of a few minutes. I guess I have mixed feelings on things, and it went all too quickly so I'm back to reality in lay off land.

Friday I got out a few minutes early and headed down to the boat. As soon as M.E. showed up, we cast off and headed out. The wind was light, but we decided to sail for a bit and I was pleasently surprised when it stenghtened enough to push us at almost 5 knots.

We happily beam reached out of to the light and then had to head straight upwind to reach Wickf0rd. I took big lazy tacks from the island to the shoreline and in just two, we were about halfway there. Then the wind died.

When travelling to places we have a four know rule, if we can't sail at at least four knots, on comes the diesel and so we did. The ride through W1ckford Harbor was as pretty as I remember with all kinds of pleasure and working boats all jumbled together surrounded by a mix of 16th century houses and new ones that were meant to look that way.

Our slip was at the very end of the pier and we had 270 degrees of unobstructed view of the inner harbor and the island. Just beautiful and as peaceful as could be. We tied up, tried to check in (come back in the morning please) and waited for Michael to motor on in so we could have dinner.

After salads and wraps we walked over to the W1ckford YC, but everyone was gone. We went back to the boats talked and waited for Claude to come back from a wedding. We crashed around 11, with the water as flat as glass and I slept fitfully thinking about the eulogy I had to give the following day. To be continued....
