Chew and screw?
2002-05-29

So... After some cheese peperoni and crackers, the crew tromps off to the showers and I get to try out the new shower on the boat... Nice. No lines, no grungy water on the floor cool.

When everybody gets back, we walk up the dock to Tugboats for dinner. We do this every year. The food is good and the view is awesome. So we place our order and this big commotion starts up behind us. This lady is choking, well sort of. She can still talk so technically she is not choking. She demands that the restuarant employees give her the Hymlich manuever. The employees rightfully refuse. You never do that to somebody who can breath. She demands again and some woman runs up and does her twice, then once again for good measure. The family insists that the rescue be called and they come in. They start to bring a stretcher, but the head guy gives the other guy a wink and they walk the lady out with the rest of the family... An elaborate version of screw and chew? The hospital is right across the street. This lady could have walked there herself... Weird.

Well the food comes and we all eat like wolves, and the crew picked up the check.... Nice... We went to the bar to watch the end of the Sox game, then headed back to the boat. I saw the 10:30 ferry go by and waved to Mr Ugly-Butt. Then we talked and all went to bed.

Friday was a beautiful day. I made fresh blueberry muffins for breakfast and we walked through town and down to the Hyannis YC to buy our Figawi clothes. Nobody went as hog wild as usual, because the clothes this year sucked. Lots of girly stuff, but very few things for guys. I bought a maroon sweatshirt and a gray Tee. M.E. bought a celery pullover and a shirt. We sat by the water for a while and walked back. There was a boat tied up to us. I guess we aren't moving after all.

M.E. fired up the blender for frozen drinks and I started dinner. By this time the rest fo the crew showed up by car. The prime rib came out wonderful. We didn't have a scrap of food left over. Life was good. The we headed off in the cars that were now here to the skippers meeting.

The skippers meeting at the Hyannis YC can be deadly to the rookies. The drinks there are the strongest I've ever seen. Many people have been ship-wrecked the night before the race. I know to be careful. Two beers was all I had. the band was good, the skippers bag was full of goodies. Only 5 hats though, this is a problem. The hats are much coveted. I've seen them go on Ebay for hundreds of dollars. We had eight people and only 5 hats. The boat always gets a hat. M.E. wanted one and since she never asked before, she got one too. The three rookies got a hat. The three regulars did not. Next year they will. We left fairly early and again were crashed out pretty early. A good thing. Saturday, race day was to be a challange.
